McKenna Flutes NEWS BRIEFS

A Few Words from the Maker

This year has brought many changes to McKenna Flutes, Inc. Last year I became the headjoint maker at Haynes Flutes and this on top of everything else that I work on made for quite a hectic year. Overall, it has been a great experience to make an important contribution at the original Boston flute company. Also, finishing up this web site and getting some of my experimental instruments documented in the Experimental Chamber has brought many ideas and projects full circle. This year for the first time in 20 years, I chose not to attend the National Flute Association Convention. Work, however, continues unabated.

My newest project is currently in the development stages and totally "top secret." Let me say that I intend to do for the flute what the electric guitar did for the guitar. I have some great people that I am working with and will be featuring my innovative whammy bar headjoint.

Tai chi remains a passion in my life and I am noticing how many of my fellow flute makers have included a similar discipline in their lives. Some have gone on to teach in Yoga, Alexander Technique, Body Mapping, and so on. These healing and wellness practices help us stay healthy and connected to an awareness of ourselves.
